Provide specialist advice and support to enable delivery of NAB’s net zero transition, helping maintain alignment to NAB’s climate commitments and deliver against its climate strategy.

The role supports executive and senior leader decision-making by providing well‑evidenced insights, options and recommendations on climate strategy, sustainable finance frameworks, and advocacy and engagement. It proactively identifies, assesses and escalates material transition risks and opportunities through appropriate channels. Through this, the role contributes to delivery of NAB Group’s climate strategy and supports sustainable commercial outcomes for customers and communities across NAB’s footprint.

Our people are customer obsessed. We prioritise customer needs and outcomes, foster innovation, and build strong relationships as we strive to be the most customer-centric organisation in Australia and New Zealand.

You’ll make an impact each day by:

  • Provide specialist analysis and advice to support NAB’s transition to net zero, including tracking and summarising progress against climate commitments and targets and flagging emerging risks or issues to the Head of Net Zero.

  • Provide analysis and documentation to support decisions on when and how climate‑related targets, methodologies and disclosure judgments should be escalated to Finance, Risk and/or governance forums, based on material risk, uncertainty or potential misalignment with NAB’s climate commitments or regulatory requirements.

  • Support the application of NAB’s green and sustainable finance frameworks and taxonomies by providing guidance, clarifications and technical input to relevant stakeholders.

  • Support development of policy, advocacy and external engagement positions by providing research, drafting and technical input, including preparing materials for engagement with governments, regulators and external agencies as directed.

  • Provide structured, disciplined project management on critical workstreams to meet mandatory and voluntary commitments.

You’ll bring to this role:

  • Strong subject matter expertise in climate change (climate policy, regulation, standards, frameworks and sustainable finance taxonomies) and the ability to apply this expertise pragmatically in a large, complex financial services environment.

  • Solid understanding of the strategic, risk, regulatory and commercial implications of the climate transition for a bank, including financed and operational emissions and customer transition considerations.

  • Ability to synthesise complex technical, regulatory and market information into clear, practical advice and options for senior leaders and governance forums.

  • Demonstrated sound judgement to identify material risks and issues, test assumptions, and determine when escalation is required.

  • Proven ability to influence, advise and partner effectively with senior stakeholders across business, Risk, Finance, Legal and Corporate Affairs.

  • Capability to engage credibly with external stakeholders (e.g., government, regulators, industry bodies and expert organisations) to inform NAB’s position and support delivery of climate commitments.

  • Strong project management capability with a track record of delivery.

  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and collaboration skills, with the ability to deliver high‑quality outputs, coordinate across organisational boundaries and contribute to a high‑performing team.
