The role:

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be responsible for the development of data models and data analysis, by leveraging your experience in data science and machine learning, to support the delivery of timely, relevant, accurate and actionable intelligence to:

  • Support NAB to identify and understand current, emerging and as-yet-unknown threats to the business
  • Pre-empt, reduce and prevent financial crime risk
  • Contribute to the application and refinement of financial crime risk controls
  • Support NAB and its customers to grow safely

The day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the identification and understanding of risks, risk indicators, typologies and other trends that supports business risk decisions and helps meet NAB regulatory obligations in Australia and overseas, including by:
    • Conducting large data extraction and analysis exercises;
    • Creating and deploying advanced analytics capabilities; and
    • Visualisation techniques to support stakeholder outcomes
    • Build and maintain relationships across the NAB enterprise, with government agencies, financial institutions and other parties that support the development of timely, relevant and accurate intelligence
  • Contribute to strategic objective of generating and communicating actionable assessments of financial crime risk

What you will bring:

  • Strong data analytics experience, including:
    • Programming languages such as SQL, SAS, Python and PySpark
    • Data mining and work with large structured and unstructured data sets to identify new and emerging patterns/trends
    • Experience with AWS data lakes
    • Machine learning models (predictive and anomaly detection models)
    • Visualisations of data outputs for consumption (PowerBI)
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of analytics within government or financial sector preferable
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate simply and with influence
  • Business acumen to meet NAB regulatory obligations while balancing commercial objectives
  • Ability to easily manage competing priorities and escalations, and able to delivery pragmatic results that are outcome focused
  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (Data Analytics; Data Science; Statistics etc).
