The Managing Counsel, Conduct & Accountability (CAT), preferably based in Melbourne or Sydney, leads a team overseeing NAB’s ongoing compliance with the Financial Accountability Regime (FAR) and supports the day-to-day management of FAR across the NAB Group with regular engagement with Executive Accountable Persons (APs) (the Executive Leadership Team and two Executive Leadership Group colleagues) and their offices.

In the role of Managing Counsel, you will report to the Global Head of Conduct & Accountability - that’s doubling down on customer obsession.

In this Managing Counsel role, you will

  • Manage and oversight ongoing compliance with the Banking Executive Accountability Regime (BEAR) and FAR across the NAB Group.
  • Support and act as a key escalation point for Executive APs and their offices.
  • Regularly engage with Executive APs, their offices and the Executive Leadership Group with respect to BEAR and FAR compliance.
  • Maintain NAB’s FAR Accountability Statements and the Accountability Map.
  • Provide accurate legal advice as well as practical guidance on FAR compliance.
  • Advise on and help to facilitate NAB’s FAR breach reporting process.
  • Support regulatory engagement with APRA and ASIC on FAR-related matters.
  • Report to the Group CEO and Board on FAR.
  • Develop and maintain technology solutions for FAR document records and management, including system design and uplift.

What you’ll bring

  • Be entitled to hold a valid, current practising certificate as an Australian Legal Practitioner under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (minimum 10 years PQE).
  • Have excellent drafting skills with a focus on high quality, plain language, grammar, spelling and attention to detail.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement skills, presence to give credibility and a collaborative and partnering approach.
  • Be a strong and thoughtful People Leader with at least 2 years of leadership experience, focused on well-being and authenticity while maintaining a focus on improving efficiency and achieving results.
  • Exhibit professional and ethical behaviour and ensure compliance with external legislation, bank standards and internal operating policies and procedures relevant to the position
  • Be able to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism, leveraging document management systems to uphold integrity and security.
  • Be willing to attend the office four days a week, if necessary.
