Our people are customer obsessed. They prioritise the needs and satisfaction of the customer above all else.  Our mindset fosters innovation and creates strong, lasting customer relationships as we strive to be the most customer centric company in Australia and New Zealand.

Each day you’ll go above and beyond to:

  • Support the provision of legal advice across NAB’s international and domestic payments capability.

  • Lead and manage a team of three lawyers specialising in payments and related financial services matters.

  • Partner with Product and Business teams across the full product lifecycle, including design, delivery, maintenance and closure.

  • Provide pragmatic regulatory advice, including regulatory interpretation, consultation input and support for regulatory change initiatives.

  • Support senior stakeholders with timely, strategic guidance on complex legal matters impacting the payments domain.

  • Assist the Head of BPB Product Legal with broader team leadership, capability building and strategic initiatives.

We are looking for the best and brightest to deliver the best for the customers. You’ll need:

  • To be a practising lawyer with 8+ years’ PQE (holding a current Australian Practising Certificate), ideally within Financial Services or another highly regulated industry.

  • Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience leading, mentoring or developing lawyers or acting as a trusted senior advisor.

  • The ability to apply sound, risk‑based judgment to legal risk, balancing regulatory compliance with commercial outcomes, innovation and customer experience.

  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing demands in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to translate legal complexity into clear, practical advice and build trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Exposure to the following will be highly regarded:

  • Payment scheme rules and procedures, including domestic account payment schemes.

  • Payment agency services supporting domestic payments.

  • Correspondent banking arrangements enabling international payments.

  • Key regulatory regimes impacting payments and financial services.

  • Consumer protection frameworks relevant to banking and payments, such as unfair contract terms, the Banking Code of Practice and the ePayments Code.

A diverse and inclusive workplace works better for everyone.

At NAB, we’re intent on building a culture we can all be proud of — one based on trust, respect and inclusion. We’re committed to creating an environment where everyone feels valued, empowered and able to bring their authentic selves to work.
