  • Offers freedom to challenge existing approaches and develop new methodologies

  • Offers variety across different projects, from IRB, IFRS9 and internal operational models applying innovative validation techniques

  • Join a supportive and collaborative team in this high-profile 12-month fixed term role

Our people are customer obsessed. They prioritise the needs and satisfaction of the customer above all else.  Our mindset fosters innovation and creates strong, lasting customer relationships as we strive to be the most customer centric company in Australia and New Zealand.

As the Associate Director, you will join the Risk Frameworks, Execution and Models Team that is doubling down on shaping our strategic Model Risk validation approach while protecting our customers.

Each day, you’ll go above and beyond to:

  • Lead independent validation of IRB and other credit risk models e.g. credit decisioning, PiT provisioning etc, to assess conceptual soundness of rating philosophies; data quality and representativeness; calibration and performance testing; benchmarking and sensitivity analysis; stability and ‑testing across economic conditions. This also includes incorporating a state of the cycle assessment for calibration.

  • Oversee validation assessment of model performance through the cycle, including drift, instability, and bias; portfolio and segment‑level outcomes; interaction with overlays, expert judgement and management adjustments.

  • Provide credible challenge where outcomes diverge from expectations or risk appetite.

  • Ensure validation conclusions are reflected in capital usage and RWA outcomes; credit decisioning frameworks; limitations, overlays, and monitoring requirements.

  • Partner with model owners to ensure findings are remediated appropriately.

  • Act as Line 2 technical authority on credit model validation matters. Support regulatory reviews, deep dives, and supervisory engagement relating to IRB models.

  • Support more junior credit validation specialists.

We’re looking for the best and brightest to deliver the best for our customers. You’ll need:

  • Previous experience in banking/financial services, model development/validation, credit risk, and/or quantitative modelling roles (developing models, extracting data), and/or governance.

  • Strong statistical and economic modelling skills with coding languages essential (python, SAS)

  • Strong engagement and influencing skills with the ability to work closely with multiple stakeholders, to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely and deliver outcomes.

  • Understanding of how models affect e.g.: credit decisions and capital (IRB where relevant); provisioning (IFRS9/ECL drivers); stress testing and scenario analysis; pricing and customer decision; financial crime/fraud detection systems; remediation streams; and markets and treasury models.

  • AI/ML awareness including an understanding of the regulatory environment relating to the use of AI to challenge the development and implementation of AI/GenAI/Agentic models (vendor or “in-house” models) for a variety of use.

  • Excellent strategic thinking, resilience, autonomy, and a customer focused mindset are essential for this role.

  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to write detailed validation reports to outline findings and model rating outcomes which are backed by sound analytical evidence and rationale.
